This is the third season of the series that the Danish director signed in the 90s, and to which he is now giving new life with actors like Alexander Skarsgård.
The third season of ‘The Kingdom Exodus’, which continues the series by Lars von Trier more than two decades later, will arrive exclusively on Filmin this year. It will do so together with its two previous seasons and the complete filmography of the Dane. platform streaming Spain has reached an agreement with TrustNordisk to exclusively premiere the long-awaited new episodes, which feature Alexander Skarsgård as a guest star and that we can see in the fall of this 2022.
The first two seasons, broadcast in 1994 and 1997 respectively, were co-directed by Lars von Trier and Morten Arnfred, and set in the neurosurgical ward at Copenhagen’s Rigshospitalet, known as ‘Riget’ (meaning ‘the kingdom’). The series follows various characters, who are both patients and staff members, and their experiences dealing with strange and supernatural phenomena. Twenty five years later, The third season will follow Karen, a sleepwalker who searches for answers to the series’ unresolved problems in order to save the hospital from doom.. One night, sound asleep, Karen wanders into the darkness and inexplicably ends up in front of the hospital. The door to the Kingdom opens again…and so does her wry humor, her labyrinthine settings, her eccentric characters, and her purely Von Trier look at the concepts of Good and Evil.
The cast includes recognizable faces from Nordic cinema such as Lars Mikkelsen (‘The Killing’, ‘Borgen’), Nikolaj Lie Kaas (‘Horsemen of Justice’) and Mikael Persbrandt (‘The Hobbit’, ‘Sex Education’) or Tuva Novotny (“Nobel”). The third season is written, like the original series, by Lars Von Trier in collaboration with Niels Vørsel, and is produced by Zentropa Entertainments in co-production with Film I Vast, Zentropa Sweden and Ginger Pictures. Cwill consist of five episodes of approximately 60 minutes each and will be hopes that a reduced version will be presented at the Venice Film Festivalbut is yet to be confirmed.
Also, Filmin has acquired the complete filmography of Lars von Trier, also the result of an agreement with TrustNordisk. Thus, acclaimed films by the Danish author such as ‘Dance in the Dark’, ‘Melancholia’, ‘Antichrist’, ‘Dogville’ and the recent ‘Jack’s House’ will be available in its catalogue. Some of them are among the best European films of the 21st century and even, according to their most devoted fans, among the best films in the history of cinema. Also included in the package are his first two feature films, ‘The Element of Crime’ and ‘Epidemic’.
On the other hand, Lars von Trier has another project on his hands. “I am going to shoot a series of small and modest short films of ten minutes each and what I will call ‘Ètudes’. The audience is going to discover something completely new, technically and narratively and in terms of characters. My idea is to shoot ten pieces, in black and white, and I was thinking of working with Nordic actors, because there are many great ones,” the director advanced in 2018 in an interview with Soundvenue.
