Emma Watson absolutely wanted to play this role, but very far from her real personality, and that’s because she wanted to film with director Sofia Coppola. This is a bling ring.
A group of teenagers from Los Angeles are fascinated by seemingly quiet celebrities and their lavish lifestyles. By stalking celebrities through the Internet, teenagers take advantage of their absence and rob them by stealing branded items, from clothes to shoes to jewelry. This group was nicknamed “Bling Ring”, which can be translated as “Glitzy Circle”.
The Bling Ring is written and directed by Sofia Coppola and stars actress Emma Watson, among others, who at the time appeared in the Harry Potter saga for more than ten years, of which she was one of the protagonists. Therefore, this role of a superficial thief was not obvious to the actor, who was open QG :
I fought for the role because I really wanted to play it. First, I was a big fan of Sofia. I’m probably the least obvious choice for this role because I’m the embodiment of what people don’t think I am.
Her character, Nick, is indeed very different from Hermione’s character in Harry Potter and her personality in general:

“We are opposites. When I read the script, I realized that it was basically a meditation on fame and what our society has become, I knew I had to do it. The character is something that I strongly oppose: he is shallow, materialistic, arrogant, Immoral. I really hated it.
But how do you play someone you hate? It was very interesting and gave me a whole new perspective on what my work could be and my role as an actor.”
Chosen to open the Un Certain Regard section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, The Bling Ring didn’t exactly take off when it opened in theaters at the end of its run with just $20 million worldwide.
