What you need to know:
Starting with the sad news for some: Boba Fett will no longer have a solo film, along the lines of what was done there in Han Solo. The culprit for this cancellation really seems to be the example provided, as this feature wasn’t the best when taking into consideration the Star Wars spin-offs and let’s face it, the Boba Fett series didn’t do well either.
In a time of corporate realignment after what happened with the Han Solo movie, they suddenly decided not to pursue movies like this anymore.
James Mangold
On the exciting side, James Mangold commented on the other projects involving Star Wars.
When I spoke to the Star Wars experts responsible for all timelines, I asked when this (movie) takes place and they said 25,000 years earlier Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. I was looking for some distance, but that’s a lot of distance!
James Mangold
Next Star Wars account of the first Jedi
The director commented that even surprised by the millennial distance between what we know of the oldest Star Wars in cinemas and the production of the new feature film, it gives a very important freedom to tell stories about the first Jedi.
This feeling of space in time was something I think was very important, not to get away from fan service or jokes made up and written by George Lucas, but to have space to tell a story while not immediately being forced to go through some basics.
James Mangold
Mangold even compares this type of draw in subjects that must be present in the scene, with the game Twister. For him, when the script is created and you’re so far away from everything you know, you’re more free to create.
Finally, the director also says he hasn’t spoken to George Lucas about the film, but he did say he knows the script.
