The series was canceled for the 90s sci-fi masterpiece

The Gattaca series, adapted from the 1997 cult sci-fi film, will not take place. Indeed, according to the Hollywood Reporter (via ComingSoon ), the show has no future on Showtime. The channel also dropped three other TV projects: The Season with Mandy Patinkin, Split and sweetness. Sony Pictures Television, which produced Gataka and sweetnessPlans to sell both series elsewhere.

The announcement comes after Paramount Chairman and CEO Chris McCarthy began overseeing Showtime last year. It seems that under his control, Showtime will now try to focus on intellectual properties owned by the channel, rather than licensed properties, such as the movie that is supposed to reboot the series, Welcome to Gattaca, which caused the network to remove the show from its calendar.

The most compelling sci-fi movie according to NASA

Appointed by NASA in 2011 Welcome to Gattaca As “the most compelling science fiction film in the history of cinema”. The dystopian feature film, which did not enjoy the expected success upon release but still received an Academy Award nomination for Best Art Direction and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Score, has since become a classic.

Let us remind you that the main roles in the film are played by Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman and Jude Law. Written and directed by Andrew Niccol, it takes us to a near future where science and humanity have advanced to the point where the latter can direct its own evolution and thereby determine a child’s future before it is born. When companies screen their employees based on their genetic makeup, Vincent (Ethan Hawke), an ordinary person with congenital heart disease, then tried to Jerome (Jude Law), the ideal model to fulfill his dream of space travel.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Homeland creators Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa were teaming up with Oscar-nominated screenwriter Craig Borten to create a television reboot of the iconic film. At the time, it was explained that the series was a “significant commitment” for Showtime. Now we can only hope that another channel will pick up the project.
