‘Soteldo Case’ to be defined this Monday

Forward Soteldo will have his case settled this Monday. After being removed from the Santos squad for an act of indiscipline, the Venezuelan player was about to be bought by Brazilian club Tigres from Mexico. However, Peixe’s board of directors is trying to reverse the deal, given that the new contract has not yet been signed.

The situation is quite complex. Technically, Soteldo was on loan at Santos until this Monday 3 July and, as of Tuesday, he would have a new contract valid until the end of June 2027. If he doesn’t sign the paperwork he will be free, as he will no longer have any links with the Vila Belmiro club .

Last Saturday Santos removed Soteldo from the squad, complaining of acts of indiscipline and, therefore, want to renounce the purchase. This Monday (3), the player’s coach lands in Brazil to negotiate with President Andrés Rueda.

Threat

Soteldo demonstrated for the first time on Sunday evening. With a short message on a social network, he specified that “no one knows what happened” and that “we’ll talk about it again soon”.

Three weeks ago, Santos informed Tigres that they would exercise the right to buy 50% of the Venezuelan player’s rights for 4 million dollars (about 19.27 million reais at current prices), as stipulated in the loan agreement.

In the deal, Santos pledged to pay the full amount in four equal installments, with the first payment due in September of this year. However, as the loan term had not yet expired, the new contract was not signed.

Now, with Soteldo at odds with coach Paulo Turra and away from the rest of the squad, Santos understands that there is no longer any need to make the signing. The Mexicans are not satisfied with the attitude of President Andrés Rueda and do not want to accept the resignation.

disappointment on the way back

The meeting between the governing council of Santos and the representatives of Soteldo is scheduled for this Monday at CT Rei Pelé. If the striker does not stay at Vila Belmiro, the player’s representatives intend to charge Santos compensation for the reversal of the deal.

Soteldo was a big name in the 2019 and 2020 seasons and returned to Santos in August last year. However, unlike his first spell, the Venezuelan player hasn’t played well since his return.

There were 24 games, five assists and no goals scored. In that period the player suffered three injuries which kept him away from important moments for the Brasileirão and Paulistao team.
