Richard, a former Cruzeiro player, will be the new signing of the Turkish club Alanyaspor. The transfer comes after the player was cited in an investigation into a sports betting scheme in Brazil, known as Operation Penalty Maximum II. The link with the European club will be for two seasons.
Richard was removed from Cruzeiro’s operations in May, shortly after being named in the investigation. According to the information obtained from the investigation, the midfielder would have received a value of R $ 40,000 for receiving a card in a match between Ceará and Cuiabá in 2022, when he was still playing for Ceará’s alvinegro. However, so far, he has not become a defendant in the case, with an ongoing investigation conducted by the Public Prosecution of Goiás (MPGO).
The player had been a regular at Cruzeiro since coach Pepa’s arrival at the club. To date, the Portuguese faces difficulties with transition problems and replacement of the ball in the midfield sector, after the elimination of the athlete.
Alanyaspor-TUR also has defender Eduardo Bauermann in the team, who is also mentioned in the investigations related to the sports betting program. The Turkish club finished last season in the Superliga in 15th place with 41 points, narrowly avoiding relegation to their country’s second division.
