Good news for DC Comics fans: the famous Suicide Squad is about to conquer the small screen. Warner Bros. Japan recently announced at Anime Expo 2023 Suicide Squad Isekai, an original animated series produced in collaboration with WIT Studio, to whom we owe the first three seasons of Attack on Titan.
“After the great success of Batman Ninja, we decided to tackle this series“, explained the producer of the series, Hiroyuki Omori. This is not a dream. This is a completely original story, made in Japan, set in the world of Isekai“.
The term Isekai, which in English means “another worldβ, is a subgenre of manga in which a hero or group of heroes are transported to a new world that is foreign to them. In the case of Suicide Squad Isekai, the story will take place both in Gotham City and in the world of Isekai.
Trailer released by Warner Bros. Japan sees Harley Quinn and the Joker transported to a fantasy land inhabited by dragons and knights. Suicide Squad leader Amanda Waller is also seen in this short trailer, hinting that other members of the squad may appear in the series.
