Netflix is gearing up for its 2023 blockbuster Rebel Moon. The ambitious project is co-written and directed by Zack Snyder, who reunites with the streaming giant two years after his Army of the Dead.
Filmed on a budget of $166 million, the film opens the door to a world of immense wealth reminiscent of another intergalactic saga.
Rebel Moon was born from Zack Snyder’s idea for a film in the Star Wars franchise. The feature film will be released in two parts – the premiere is scheduled for December 22.
in the given interview in Empire Magazine – which dedicates its cover to the blockbuster – the director shares his many projects regarding the Rebel Moon sequel. He specifies that he knows exactly where to go and plans to go beyond the planned two films.
“When I pitched my idea to Netflix, they expected scalabilityhe explains. They wondered, “How big could this project be? How many movies are there?’ And I said, “Well, if they really want to go, we can definitely go all the way. It is a bottomless pit.”
A 450-page bible surrounding the film
Determined to offer a concrete world, Zack Snyder has developed a 450-page bible that combines all the information and secondary stories. “I have a huge whiteboard in my office that keeps all my ideas together, and if all goes well, a lot may end up on screen.”
The filmmaker says the TV project could explore the story of the saga’s great villain, Balisarius. And for a possible third film, viewers can experience the Rebel Moon – which lends its name to the film’s title.
“Rebel Moon isn’t what they’re on– says Zack Snyder. The title is conceptual, but there is a planet called Vana, and it’s a rebel planet. He doesn’t even appear for the duration of a shot in this film.”
All of these ideas are enough to make even the biggest sci-fi fans dream, but before we can imagine the expanded universe of Rebel Moon, we’ll have to wait and see how the film is critically and publicly received when it’s released.
The cast includes, among others, Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou and Ed Skrein.
