Ellen De Generes’ show alone ended after 19 seasons with many of hostess friends congratulating her on directing and many fans are wondering what he will do next. Ellen DeGeneres has spent nearly two decades celebrity interview dance and play tricks , and that followed even more years on camera and on stage as an actor. However, it appears that his first major project after his talk show has little to do with cameras or even people.
Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi are in Rwanda for the June 7 opening ceremony of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund’s Ellen DeGeneres campus. The talk show host has been fascinated by primatologist Dian Fossey since she was 12 and her passion inspired De Rossi to help fund the new DFGF campus in honor of her wife’s 60th birthday. DeGeneres spoke with THR on the impact that the campus has already had, even before its official opening:
When Portia gave me this gift there were 800 gorillas and today there are about 1100. So it really made a difference, an awareness. [My own firsthand experiences gorilla trekking] he reaffirmed everything I had always wanted to do as a child. Being with them changes your life.
The campus opened to the public in February of this year, offering immersive and educational experiences, such as gorilla watching at the Irmelin DiCaprio Theater at 360 degrees (an auction was held to name the buildings, Leonardo DiCaprio who has bought the theater in his mother’s name and a computer lab named after his father, George). Portia De Rossi said she was inspired by Ellen DeGeneres’ passion for Dian Fossey’s work and she thought it would be the perfect gift from her, whether for a birthday or a post-show project:
It stuck with me, because over the years Ellen has met the most amazing people in the world, really, but the person who made the most impact on her was someone she never met. , Dian Fosey. I didn’t want to buy him another watch. She knew the show was ending and she wanted her to be involved in something else she loved, plus she wanted her to remember what was important to her as a child.
Portia De Rossi seems to have only his wife’s happiness in mind, because your other hope for your spouse after the talk show she started stand-up again because she is so good and brings her joy.
Plans to spend more time in Africa after the show ended have been in the works for some time. In fact, in the same interview last May Ellen DeGeneres has announced the end of her talk show she said THR who hoped to be more involved in his passion for animals and conservation:
I will open my campus in Rwanda next year and I want to be more involved in conservation and everything that matters to me regarding the environment and animals.
The opening ceremony for her campus to help save Rwanda’s gorillas is certainly an exciting way for Ellen DeGeneres to start her post-talk show life and likely a welcome break from a long career on camera.
