Guitarist talks about the soundtrack, inspirations and his passion for horror movies
slashguitarist for Guns N’ Roses, on the last June 30th, shared to the portal NME some details of his film project, the horror film entitled “The Breach”. The musician revealed his excitement about the production and mentioned his old Hollywood friend, actor Patrick Wilson.
slash was asked about the film’s soundtrack, where he revealed that he composed it during the pandemic, which brought some challenges, but nothing prevented his creativity. “Well, we did it during COVID, so it was a lot of long distance stuff. And I’m not a scoring engineer. So I just wrote my chunks and sent them off. Then [o departamento de som] transposed them into the instruments that we ended up using for most of the film. So I did some individual guitar and acoustic guitar parts that we put in there as well.”
One of the curiosities of the plot of “The Breach” is that some characters are infected by a virus that causes them to grow extra fingers. A NME joked asking if this skill would be useful for playing guitar. “You could put in those extra riffs, maybe some more harmonies going on.” He responded slash to laughter.
slash also comments on other artists who inspire him to make film soundtracks and mentions names like John Carpenterknown for two horror film scores, also mentioned Hans Zimmer, John Williams and highlighted an artist a little less known but who made memorable works like Hildur Guðnadóttir, responsible for the film’s soundtrack “Joker”.
The artist also spoke about how his passion for horror films began: “Here! In England! When I was very, very little, living in Stoke-On-Trent, there were only two TV stations and they only played certain times during the day. But then there were the Hammer horror films. People like Vincent Price, Peter Cushing and Charles Laughton – all these British horror icons. I just fell in love with it 100 percent.”
