Titanic: What happened to the dogs after the sinking? A small tribute to James Cameron

The sinking of the Titanic on the night of April 14-15, 1912, off Newfoundland resulted in approximately 1,500 casualties. But did you know that animals also died as a result of the disaster? According to National Museums LiverpoolAt the time of the tragedy, there were 12 puppies on the liner.

Of these twelve little dogs, who traveled first class and whose presence was paid for, only three survived: two Pomeranians and a Pekingese. Small in size, these animals could be kept by their owners, who would wrap them in blankets while boarding lifeboats.

In his classic Titanic, one of those three-hour must-see American films, director James Cameron pays a small tribute to the dogs lost in the tragedy.

This little tribute happens early in the film when the character of old Rose, played by Gloria Stewart, arrives at the research site with her grandson. In his arms, a shipwreck survivor holds a small Pomeranian, just like the one who survived the shipwreck.

It should also be noted that one of the deleted scenes from Titanic, which can be seen below, is about the dogs that got on the liner.

In the series in question, John Jacob Astor (played on screen by Eric Braden) tries to find his little dog named Kitty at the request of his wife.
