While “The Godfather” is recognized as one of the greatest films of all time, not everyone thinks so. A prime example of this is music giant Frank Sinatra, who had several disagreements with the storyline, even getting personal.
With the film’s popularization, Sinatra developed a grudge against the story due to the character of Johnny Fontane and his supposed similarities to the American singer. Dissatisfied with the situation, the artist even publicly confronted the author and one of the screenwriters of the plot, Mario Puzo, during the initial phase of adapting the story to the cinema.
Meet Johnny Fontane
Fontane is a famous Italian singer who went through a difficult phase in the middle of his career and, coincidentally (or not), the launch of the story took place at a delicate moment in Sinatra’s career, where his artistic recognition was no longer the same .
But this is not the big question related to the character. Sinatra has also been embroiled in controversies over alleged involvements with the Italian mafia. The allegations against the musician were so well founded that the artist was under surveillance by the FBI.
