It’s not uncommon to find a ‘Black Mirror’ fan citing ‘The Whole Story of You’ as their favorite episode. The final chapter of the first season of the series marked the viewers and the production itself, giving that futuristic and dystopian tone that was repeated in the following years.
It was so successful that a famous Hollywood actor (literally) bought into the idea of making a film about the episode: none other than Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr. vs. George Clooney
Armstrong then began looking for people willing to take a chance on his idea. He got even more than he bargained for: Downey Jr. and George Clooney were interested in adapting the episode into a film.
A dispute began between the two and Downey Jr. ended up winning: his production company, Team Downey, acquired “The Whole History of You” and Warner Bros. (associated with the actor) would handle the distribution.
What happened?
And now?
More than a decade later, it’s unclear where the film has gone. If initially Armstrong wanted to escape from Netflix in order to be able to produce with less rigidity to the company’s rules, “Black Mirror” has taken other paths that could have allowed him to take risks. We will never know what could have resulted from the collaboration between the two.
However, the screenwriter has also been busy with ‘Succession’. It may be that, now that the series is over, we finally hear about “The Whole Story About You.”
