Lukaku accepts salary cut to stay at Inter

The player can obtain a salary reduction to stay another season at Inter.

The future of the striker Romelu Lukaku is not defined and a stay at Inter is not entirely excluded. The player is from Chelsea, England, but played on loan at Inter last year. Now, according to the newspaper “The Telegraph”, the player wants to stay in Italian football and does not even rule out a salary reduction at the club to continue among the options.

Again according to information from the publication, Lukaku can give up more than one million euros (R$5.5 million at the current price) per season to continue being part of the cast commanded by coach Simone Inzaghi. At the moment the player is out of Chelsea’s plans, a club with which he has a contract until 2026.

However, to keep Lukaku in the team, Inter will have to make a high investment. According to information from the European press, Chelsea have asked for around 40 million euros (R$213 million) to permanently release the player. The figure is considered quite high by Inter, but the definitive investment is not excluded.

As they organize to try and keep Lukaku, the Italians are attracting competitors to sign the striker. Juventus, from Italy, are another club that has shown interest in the player. Furthermore, Lukaku has also been indicated as a target of interest by Al Hilal, from Saudi Arabia.

Lukaku played 37 games for Inter last season, scoring 14 goals and contributing seven assists. The player faced stiff competition from Edin Dzeko for the title. With the departure of the experienced striker, who signed with Fenerbahçe, Lukaku could have more space in the squad from next season if he is retained.
