If you don’t know the Disney adaptation of the classic children’s book Pollyanna, hurry to Disney+! This 1960 feature film brings to the screen the story of a 12-year-old girl who brings happiness wherever she goes and the impact her arrival has on the small town of Harrington and its people.

What a joy for parents to find Agnes Moorhead, the interpreter of my beloved witch’s mother, with the same French voice and an equally haunting role! For kids, Pollyanna is, first and foremost, a hell of a lot of good humor, admittedly a little dated (the film conveys the values of 1960’s Disney fashion), but really delicious. A very popular and well-loved entertainer!
What will they like?

- Pollyanna’s good humor and constant positivity make her a great heroine to identify with.
- Supporting characters, all well drawn and with issues that are completely understandable for young viewers.
- A “Disney movie” paw that ends well for everyone, including the characters first introduced as antagonists, and that Pollyanna manages to get back on track.
What might be bothering them:

Agnes Moorhead
- Madam Snow’s character is absolutely intoxicated by anyone who visits her and threatens her small staff.
- The young heroes first meet Mr. Pendergast, who is said to lock the children in his basement. We are scared for a few minutes before we find out that it is not in any way true to the rumours.
- At the end, falling off the roof of Pollyanna’s house and mentioning that she’s going to live with a paralyzed leg sends shivers down her spine, but thankfully her injury is operable.
- Without any worries, the length of the film can be a hindrance (2h. 15), it is recommended to watch it in two parts for the youngest.
