Prophet: The Series on set, find out who will replace Tahar Rahim as Malik

First announced five years ago, the TV series adaptation of The Prophet finally began filming on July 3 with an all-new cast and a new setting.

The Prophet, consisting of eight episodes and destined for OCS, will be directed by Enrico Maria Artale, to whom we owe the Canal+ series Django, starring actor Mamadou Sidibé as Malik.

Filmed in Marseille and Puglia, Italy, this new version of Jacques Audiard’s feature film, which won nine César Awards in 2010, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Tahar Rahim, is created by the original team.

In particular, the creators and screenwriters Abdel Rauf Dafri (Mesrine, Braquo) and Nicolas Peufaillit (Les Revenants), as well as the producer Marco Cherki (Les Sauvages), in agreement with the producers of the original film Why Not Productions and Page 114.

While Jacques Audiard’s feature film followed the journey of a young Frenchman of Algerian descent, sentenced to six years in prison, who falls under a group of Corsican prisoners in Paris, this series reboot will focus on Malik El Jebena.

A “mule” of African descent, incarcerated in Baumet prison, who eventually crosses paths with another inmate, an important figure in the local Franco-Arab community, who becomes his mentor.

“This series is a true rebirth of the character of Malick and his world in the prism of the street, the characters living in Marseille today and the cross of Baumet prison”OCS announced in a press release.

“A true noir series, both entertaining and disturbing, without the cops, about criminals among criminals. This is first and foremost a survival story, with a gripping narrative and a complex plot driven by impressive repercussions.”.

Mamadou Sidibe, the new “prophet” of the series.

Along with Mamadou Sidibe, who makes his screen debut as “The Prophet” Malik, succeeding Tahar Rahim, “The Prophet” viewers will find Sami Bouajilla (Parents, Son), Ouassini Embareki (Athena, The Eddie), Mathieu Lucchi (L’Atelier , Oussekine), Nailia Harzoune (placed), Foued Naba (verified) and Moussa Maaskri (Stillwater, Les SEGPA).

“The Prophet series is intended to be a very contemporary story, as the film was in its day”Producer Marco Cherki explains. “We’re re-dealing the cards with Malik of African descent. While our characters change and transform as the face of our society evolves, our themes remain the same. The Prophet is a here-and-now series.”.

Coming soon to OCS, Prophet joins Opera, Sentinels, Devils or The Name of the Rose in the OCS Originals series radius.
