“We weren’t sure we were going to make a movie!” : French Super Mario voices say their VF noises

It is the second highest-grossing animated film of all time behind Frozen 2, Super Mario Bros. The film currently remains the best film debut of 2023 in France.

Among its 7 million French viewers, 97% saw this adaptation of the same game in the French version. The dub phenomenon that created a lot of conversation as soon as its first trailer was released in October 2022.

A quartet of actors consisting of Pierre Tessier (Mario), Benoit du Pac (Luigi), Audrey Surdiv (Peach) and Xavier Fanion (Donkey Kong) came to meet Voix Ouf to talk about the film and its VF. Special Voix Phew, filmed!

In two short sentences, the voice of Pierre Tessier, the regular actor of Ryan Reynolds, among others, managed to seduce the whole world over the famous plumber in blue overalls, before dethroning Chris Pratt in the hearts of Americans who shared the mass. Their admiration for VF on social media.

Two new trailers have arrived to support this dubbing success, featuring other big actors in the field, reigniting the whole debate surrounding ‘star talent’, the practice of hiring celebrities instead of specialist actors. .

Such a success that art director Valerie Sickley and Universal Studios chose to keep the original voice, a true turning point in the history of dubbing animated films.
