While the talks point to positive results, the United States Actors and Artists Union (SAG-AFTRA) is expected to join the writers’ strike soon. As per expirationthe group, which puts pressure on its leadership, is already preparing posters and T-shirts for the protest.
The stakeholder group’s readiness to join the strike suggests that, even with the extension, SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP have not reached an agreement. While details of the talks have not been released, SAG discusses residual earnings adjustments, recorded testing regulations, and even compensation in the age of artificial intelligence (AI).
For the actors to join us would be as historic as it was in the 1960s when simultaneous strikes brought us health care and retirement. The WGA has known for a long time that studios don’t give us anything without a fight, which means [que precisamos] protests, and now it seems that members of SAG-AFTRA know it too. The members look ready to join the fray.
Writers Guild (WGA) to Deadline.
The last time the screenwriters’ and actors’ unions joined forces in a strike was in 1960. The screenwriters, who have been on strike since May, experienced a strike as intense as the current one in 2007.
Quick to protest, several members of the Actors Guild signed a letter calling for a stronger role for SAG-AFTRA representatives, a way to pressure the leadership to get results.
“We are ready to strike in that case. And we are troubled by the idea that SAG-AFTRA members may be prepared to make sacrifices that their leadership is not.”
It is worth mentioning that the Directors Union (DGA) reached an agreement with the AMPTP last month. The class also negotiated salary adjustments and other points of interest.
