Sandman: where to watch the series? See synopsis, cast and trailer

Sandman is a Netflix fiction series that mixes drama and fantasy in an imaginative narrative about Morpheus, the entity that personifies dreams.

The ambitious production, which premiered on the streaming platform in August 2022, is based on the comic of the same name launched through the Vertigo label, by DC Comics, in 1989.

The work was written by author Neil Gaiman and featured artists such as Sam Kieth, Mike Dringenberg, Malcolm Jones III and Dave McKean.

The creators of the series are Gaiman, screenwriter David S. Goyer and writer Allan Heinberg. Both are also credited as executive producers on the show.

Synopsis and trailer of the Sandman series

After years of captivity, Morpheus, the King of Dreams, escapes and sets out on a journey to find his stolen artifacts. While he tries to restore order to the dream realm, the entity opposes other beings and dark creatures.

Actor Tom Sturridge, who has participated in productions such as “Far From This Insensato Mundo” and “On the Road”, embodies Morpheus, the king of dreams.

“Witch Convention” actress Vivienne Acheampong plays dream keeper Lucienne. Vanesu Samunyai, in her first performance in a series, represents the young Rose Walker.

Kirby Howell-Baptiste, from “Barry”, and Mason Alexander Park, from “Quantum Leap”, appear in The Sandman as personifications of Death and Desire, respectively.

Jenna Coleman, from “Victory: The Life of a Queen”, plays detective and necromancer Johanna Constantine. Gwendoline Christie, from “Game of Thrones”, lives Lucifer.

“Logan” actor Boyd Holbrook plays the dark and evil Coríntio, and “Ratatouille” comedian Patton Oswalt plays Matthew the Crow. Another recognizable face is that of ‘Game of Thrones’ star Charles Dance, who appears as the wizard Roderick Burgess.

Backlash from audiences and critics

The IMDb (Internet Movie Database), an online database of data and information on cinemas, series and other entertainment platforms, points out that the average audience score for Sandman is 7.7.

Rotten Tomatoes, a site that aggregates reviews of audiovisual productions, shows that 87% of the reviews made on the series, coming from specialized media, are positive.
