Golden hands covered in blood
Betrayed and dumped by her boyfriend, Dolores Roach (Justina Machado) is thrown behind bars for drug dealing. 16 years after its release, the world is no longer the same. Dolores finds herself alone and on the street.
Desperate, she sees one remnant of her past life: a small, dilapidated empanada shop around the corner whose menu hasn’t changed in 16 years. Thanks to the providential help of the young owner, Luis (Alejandro Hernández), he will try to get his life back.
But when she tries to use her talent as a massage therapist to find a professional job, things spiral out of control and Dolores descends back into hell.
A famous case
If Dolores Roach’s horror outline sounds oddly familiar, that’s okay. It really is a modern retelling of a famous news story: the Sweeney Todd story.
Adapted into the 1979 Stephen Sondheim musical and the 2007 Tim Burton film adaptation, the myth of the Devil’s Barber of Fleet Street is similar in every respect to the Aaron Marks and Dara Resnick Kreis series.

The betrayed and abandoned hero comes out of a long stay in prison and tries to somehow rehabilitate his free life. Using his talents (as Sweeney’s barber and Dolores’ masseuse), “The Hero” gradually arranges his revenge with the help of his only ally, an unnamed mystery chef…for those who don’t. Know the rest, we won’t say more!
Far from being a simple remake, The Horror of Dolores Roach brings its share of originality to the famous myth. In addition to the inversion of the gender of its characters, which causes the prism to change from the most interesting to the intriguing, it is also equipped with a pleasant meta-reflection on the scope of such different facts on artistic works, but also. about the effect they can have on their true heroes. A re-read that is worth a detour and will turn out to be most effective!
The Horror of Dolores RoachA little black and bloody pearl, but not devoid of humor, must be discovered exclusively on Prime Video.
