“We need these roles, these faces, these stories”: Ekaterina Corsini returns to cinemas after Cannes.

What is it about?

Khedija works for a wealthy Parisian family who offers to babysit her children in Corsica during the summer. He has the opportunity to return with his daughters Jessica and Farah to the island they left fifteen years ago in tragic circumstances.

While Khedija struggles with her memories, the two teenagers succumb to all the temptations of summer: surprise meetings, 400 strokes, their first romantic experience. This trip will be an opportunity for them to discover a hidden part of their history.

Two years after La Fracture, Catherine Corsin returns with Le Retour. The solar film centers on two young women and their mother, who return to Corsica after many years of leaving the island. The mystery revolves around the real reasons for this departure, and more broadly Le Retour creates concern about the family ties that unite this family, whose father died soon after.

Return is a film rich in its plot and themes. Its common thread, in addition to the above-mentioned family secrets, is also and above all the chronicle of two teenage girls who indulge in all the temptations of summer. The latter are portrayed by Esther Gohuru (seen in Minion) and Suzy Bemba (seen in L’Opera). As the mother, we meet Aissatou Diallo Sagna, Cesar for Best Supporting Actor for La Fracture.

Among the topics covered in the film, we can mention the issue of social origin, sexual identity and others. Last May, during the Cannes Film Festival, he met actress Suzy Bemba: “When I read the script, I was surprised that it is a film about three women, three black women, and it is one of the first films in France with three black women as the main characters. With issues of identity and representation, it struck me and made me want to go there.“

Director and screenwriter Catherine Corsini told us that she wanted to show “Stories we’re not used to, women who are underrepresented and given roles that aren’t cliche roles“.”I wanted to give them romantic roles, real fictional roles that famous actors could play.“. and add: “You need to be able to tell stories that feel like the world you live in“.
