Julien Rigullo’s feature debut, Baby Jesus, follows Jean, a recently separated father who is struggling. But the course of his life can change, because he is sure of it: his son, Lulu, 10 years old, is working miracles… and with a little luck, he could be the new messiah! All that remains is to convince the rest of the world.
Led by Canadian Antoine Bertrand (seen in Tomorrow It All Begins and I Love What You Do), a young Esteban Azuara Eymard, Gérard Darmon, whose 68-year-old appearance recalls his Flambeau character, Bruno Sánchez and Carolyn Anglade. A hopeful film.
Julien Rigulo, a former producer of music videos and commercials, decided to start writing a film after losing his producer. He explains in the press kit:I started meeting producers, but no matter how much I told my story, my experiences around the world, no one was interested…
Until he met me Laetitia Galitzine I talked to Baby Jesus about this idea that had been floating around in my head for a while. I wanted to make a film about the hope I had to escape it, the signs you look for when things are going wrong, and this underlying idea that sometimes that hope can be embodied in the eyes of a ‘child’..”

Lead people to something positive
He adds: “The situation is difficult for everyone and the future has never been so dark. My belief with this film is to bring people to positive and bright. With a little patience, hard work and faith in life, the best things often happen… and even if they don’t always… hope doesn’t hurt!”
A poetic comedy about hope and the need to move forward, no matter what. baby jesus Also examines the father-son relationship between Jean and Lulu and Jean’s relationship with his father Bernard (Gérard Darmont). The director was also inspired by his own relationship with his son, whom he nicknamed Lulu, to write the script for Baby Jesus.

“Having had the chance to watch him grow up over the years, I wanted to bring this idea of a little father-son duo to the screen. As an echo, I added the connection between Jean and Bernard, her own father, played by Gerard Darmont… It gave Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, so I was still on topic.“
and Gerard Darmon Much appreciated the filming of this feature film, shot in the summer of 2022 in the eastern mountains of the Pyrenees. The actor also appreciates the work of the young director: “Directors are never sure what they’re doing, but I’ve known so many who channeled their anxieties by panicking or being unpleasant to the team… Julien, it’s the other way around! Works in harmony, softly, in listening and thus receives a lot from others..

His team was extraordinary, consisting of quite young people with a kind of enthusiasm, without the old film gurus who had already made 88 films. Julien was the ceremonial of it all, but with a very easy natural authority, listening to others. I’ve never seen that happen for sure… (…) Hopefully it will keep that freshness, that sincerity.
This story has been around for a long time: he chewed it, he chewed it, and when the movie started, he knew exactly where he was going, but calmly. All this reflected on the actors. We worked every day with the real epidermal pleasure of meeting, in this magnificent setting of Occitania, around Perpignan, not far from the Pyrenees. There was such a beautiful energy at this shoot.“
And this energy is visible on the screen. baby jesus It’s currently in theaters.
