GAS Consultoria owes more than R$ 9.3 billion to around 127,000 investors
Glaidson Acácio dos Santos, known as ‘Bitcoin Pharaoh‘ he said, during testimony to the Financial Pyramids CPI, that the federal police operation would be responsible for preventing his firm from paying what it owes customers. Glaidson was heard by deputies this Wednesday 12, by videoconference.
The president of GAS Consultoria e Tecnologia was arrested in Operation Kryptos, in 2021, carried out by the PF together with the Federal Public Prosecutor (MPF) and the Federal Revenue Agency, on charges of financial pyramiding. The fraud allegedly affected around 127,000 investors, who are seeking to recover a sum of R$9.3 billion.
According to Glaidson, however, it was this move that prevented GAS from honoring its commitments and said that it is possible for the company to pay all customers.
“The firm has not stopped paying its customers. It has been hacked by the PF and has crippled its operations,” Glaidson said, according to the Chamber of Deputies Agency.
“GAS has never been one day late in nine years of business. We always pay our customers in advance. By unlocking the resources found on the platforms and taking what was hijacked from the PF, the GAS has all the conditions to get back into business”, he continued. The company went bankrupt in February of this year.
According to the PF, the scheme managed by GAS moved BRL 38 billion through individuals and companies in Brazil and abroad. The company promised an average return of 10% per month, but, according to Glaidson, the only guarantee given on this return was “the company’s experience”.
At the CPI, he said that customers do not buy cryptocurrencies directly, but the service of “trader” – when a company is the one who manages investments and gives part of the returns to customers.
