Pirates of the Caribbean: Margot Robbie will be the new protagonist, but Johnny Depp may return to the franchise

Jerry Bruckheimer gave details on the two Pirates of the Caribbean movies in development, one starring Margot Robbie and one without her.

a sixth film Pirates of the Caribbean is in development and could be starring Margot Robbie. The franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that two scripts are being written for Pirates of the Caribbean 6, one involving Robbie and the other without it.

During the launch of Top Gun: Maverick (2022), Bruckheimer talked to the The Sunday Times about the production of the next film by disney. Asked about the possibility of a female protagonist for the future of Pirates of the Caribbeanthe filmmaker said:

Yup. We’re talking to Margot Robbie. We are developing two Pirates scripts – one with her, one without

But the big question is: Will Johnny Depp return to the franchise? There were reports that Disney no longer wants to have productions with the actor and would have even rejected his participation in the next pirate film, after the involvement of depp in a $50 million defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard over her domestic abuse allegations.

During the trial, depp He even stated that he would no longer play the Captain Jack Sparrow, which certainly complicates matters. However, fans are keen to rewatch depp in the skin of Sparrowwith a petition of over 50,000 signatures for his hiring.

Unfortunately, there are no plans to depp star in the sixth Pirates movie for now, confirmed Bruckheimer. When asked if Johnny Depp could return, the veteran producer said, “Not at this time. The future is yet to be decided.”

With the outcome of the trial in hand, the tide may favor depp. Shortly after the actor won his defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Hearda people spoke with an unnamed former Disney executive to discuss Johnny Depp’s future with the studio.

I absolutely believe after the verdict that the franchise is set to restart with Johnny as Captain Jack back on board. There’s a lot of box office potential for a beloved character deeply rooted in Disney culture. With [produtor] Jerry Bruckheimer on top of Tom Cruise’s massive hit in Top Gun: Maverickthere is a huge appetite for bringing back lucrative Hollywood stars in massively popular franchises.

It seems that the return to Pirates of the Caribbean in depp is uncertain, but still possible.
