Chelsea have “lined up” to sign Neymar if the player decides to leave PSG

According to ‘Le Parisien’, the London team is monitoring the Brazilian’s situation in Paris and could make an offer to sign the Brazilian

Even in the lowest moments of European football, Neymar continues to arouse the interest of the giants of the Old Continent. According to the newspaper Le Parisien, Chelsea are monitoring the striker’s situation at Paris Saint-Germain and are “aligned” with the player’s signing and could make an offer if he decides not to stay longer in Paris. The Brazilian returned to the club this week and is in the final stretch of recovery from a right ankle injury.

One of Chelsea’s assets in seducing Neymar is the chance to work again with Argentinian coach MaurĂcio Pochettino, with whom the Brazilian has won the French Cup (2020/21) and the French championship (2021/22). The manager was signed by the London outfit at the end of last season and will have the mission of rebuilding the squad after a disappointing season, finishing only 12th in the Premier League.

The factor that weighs in favor of Neymar’s stay at PSG is also the figure on the sideline, but on the Parisian side. The club recently announced the signing of Spanish coach Luis Enrique, with whom the striker worked at Barcelona and enjoyed one of the best moments of his career. The coach was responsible for guiding the MSN trio (Messi, SuĂ¡rez and Neymar) to the European triple crown in 2015 and led his country’s national team to the last World Cup.

Neymar has a contract with PSG until 2027, but the Brazilian does not enjoy prestige with the management and especially with the fans, who often criticize him for the club’s repeated failures in the quest for an unprecedented Champions League title. In May the newspaper The Team reported that the Parisian management would even be considering loaning the striker to make room in the payroll for new signings and given that few clubs could afford the fine of dismissal for the number 10, stipulated at almost R$ 1.5 billion . In addition to Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester United have already expressed interest in the athlete.

Also according to Le Parisien, Neymar should only be available to coach Luis Enrique from September, when his ankle should be fully healed. He also takes into account the risk of muscle injury due to the athlete’s long period of inactivity, the longest of his career. The Brazilian national striker underwent surgery in March in Qatar and has already accumulated five months without entering the field.

PSG play their first pre-season friendly on 21 July against Le Havre at the club’s new head office. The team will participate in a series of friendlies in Japan days later, when they face Cristiano Ronaldo’s side Al-Nassr on the 25th, Cerezo Osaka on the 28th, and Inter Milan on August 1st. The debut in the 2023/24 season will be on August 13, against Lorient, for the French championship.
