The 40th edition of UN magazine bring the theme European Union – Latin America: new times, new alliances. The initiative is part of LLYC IDEAS, the consultancy’s Center for Leadership through Knowledge. The publication is dedicated to the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council and focuses on the need to seize this moment to relaunch the strong economic, but also cultural and emotional ties between Europe and Latin America. More than 20 experts reflect on the new possibilities for cooperation between the two regions, including Helder Barbalho, re-elected governor of Pará, and Juan Carlos Gozzer, partner and CEO of LLYC for Latin America.

The panel of experts that contributed to this 40th edition of the UN includes José Manuel Albares, Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation; Andrés Allamand, Ibero-American General Secretary; Javier Niño Pérez, Deputy Director of Management for the Americas at the European External Action Service (EEAS); Raquel García Llorente, researcher at the Real Instituto Elcano; María Ángela Holguín, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia; Ramón Jáuregui, president of the Euroamerica Foundation; Cristina Manzano; director of esglobal and IE Insights; Daniel F. Runde, senior vice president, Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS); Enrique Goñi, president of the Instituto Hermes; Erika Mouynes, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama; and Marina Artusa, Clarin correspondent in Spain.

The directors of several companies also participate in this edition: Alicia Richard, general manager of Afiniti for Spain and Portugal; Adolfo Vinatea, managing director of Krealo; John Rutherford, global IR director at BBVA; Andreu Vilamitjana, General Manager of CISCO Spain; João Nunes, managing director of LATAM Strategic Markets at Page Group; Yaneth Giha, Executive Director of FIFARMA; and Leandro Conti, senior director of Communications and Marketing-External Relations of Hotmart.

Juan Carlos Gozzer, partner and CEO of LLYC for Latin America, discusses the need to develop more creative and sustainable connections for the formation of new alliances. Additionally, Paloma Baena, Senior Director of European Affairs and Next Generation EU, and Pablo García Berdoy, Lead Consultant for European Affairs, co-authored a paper.

The new edition also includes an interview between José Antonio Llorente, founding partner and president of LLYC (BME:LLYC), with Moisés Naim, international economics and politics analyst. In it, Naim laments that “the relationship between Latin America and Europe is more in the discourses and wishes than in the daily practices of decision makers.” He believes that Latin America could be the Saudi Arabia of the new age thanks to its natural resources and underlines the effect that greater unity in the region could have. “The potential of an integrated Latin America is enormous, significant and is the reason for the great hopes that have not yet been realized. Perhaps with new leaders there will be more possibilities to think of a Latin America that knows how to make alliances, first internally, within the same region, and then on an international scale,” Naim points out.

“We are dedicating this edition of UNO to the links between Latin America and the European Union because, for LLYC, they are more than a good idea: they are at the heart of our business project. In Spain, in addition to possible political changes, there will remain two transversal traits shared by almost the whole Spanish population: Europeanism and the perception that there is a special relationship with Latin America. Now is the time to affirm both ideas,” says José Antonio.
