The Brazilian took a very important victory in this weekend’s event
This Saturday (15th), Las Vegas hosted another UFC event, with Brazil in the main event. Mayra Sheetara faced former bantamweight champion Holly Holm to try and establish herself as a possible challenger for the belt in the category.
And the Brazilian scored a big win, possibly the biggest of her career, submitting ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ in the second round to get her fourth straight win within the organization.
Fight
Holly Holm started the fight by going up and trying to catch Mayra with good shots, but the Brazilian hit back, which led to the former champion trying to get Sheetara to the grid and aiming for clinch shots, without trying to put the struggle to rest.
Mayra Sheetara got rid of the American and was betting well on hitting, but Holm continued to look for the clinch and hold the fight in this first round. The Brazilian managed to keep away from danger and land good shots, such as a left foot that came close to endangering the former champion, who responded by bringing her against the line-up.
In the second round, a right foot from Mayra managed to scare Holm well, who soon went into the clinch, but left the Brazilian’s neck open to take the guillotine standing up. The former bantamweight champion tried to escape, but she couldn’t and, thus, Sheetara won the victory and, thus, keeping her belt chances in the UFC.

In a confrontation that also had tensions and provocations behind the scenes, Norma Dumont faced Chelsea Chandler and showed service from the first round, when she was close to knocking out her rival with a nice combination. During the entire fight. Norma paid no attention to Chandler, dominating the fight to become the UFC’s biggest featherweight winner, en route to her fifth win in her division.
Another Brazilian victory was that of Melk Costa, who moved up to the octagon and secured victory over Austin Lingo. Istela Nunes, in turn, lasted only 34 seconds in the octagon in her fight against Viktorya Dudakova, suffering a serious arm injury at the very beginning of the fight against the Russian, when in an attempt to knock down her opponent, she fell on the his own arm… Istela’s cry of pain was enough to end the fight.
