The health food market reaches BRL 100 billion

With an expectation of a 27% increase in the sector by 2025, foodtechs offer nutritious and practical foods for everyday life

According to data from Euromonitor International, the healthy food sector is gaining prominence with the exponential growth it has shown in recent years. Between 2015 and 2020 the increase was 33%. However, with the arrival of the pandemic and concerns about health and well-being, 47% of Brazilians have begun to become aware of the need to adopt new eating habits and, as a result, market revenues in the healthy segment have been R $ 100.2 billion in 2020. By 2025, the expectation is that the segment will grow another 27%.

“More than following a healthy diet, it is extremely important to certify the origin of the product you consume. Brazil is the world leader in the use of pesticides and the most affected foods are peppers, strawberries, lettuce, cucumbers and carrots,” says Tomás Abrahão, CEO and founder of Raízs, organic and healthy food technology.

“The improper use of the chemical substance has consequences on the health of the population, since it is one of those responsible for chromosomal alterations, tumors of various types, respiratory diseases and also causes numerous damages to the environment, such as the contamination of soil and water resources” , complete it.

Increase the pursuit of a healthier lifestyle

This new scenario has led to an increase in the number of people looking for a healthier lifestyle, which is why, today, Brazil is in 7th place in a world ranking that evaluates the market of healthy foods and drinks and how consumers are interested in combining convenience with good nutrition.

Despite this, a survey carried out by Fiesp indicated that, although the increase in the search for a lifestyle with more nutritious foods is significant, approximately 38% of people consider the preparation of these foods more laborious.

This contradiction has meant that the consumption of ultra-processed foods is still high, above all because there is a lack of practical and accessible options on the market.

“Brazilians’ consumption habits tend to be healthier than in the rest of the world. This is due to the fact that we have a deeply rooted culinary culture based on real foods such as rice and beans. However, the end of the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 has brought people back to a hectic routine and with little time to prepare quality meals,” says Tomás.

A healthier food option

Among the new options for healthier eating is the Raízs Original Line, which offers pre-processed foods in small portions to make customers’ daily lives easier.

“To meet the needs of this new consumer profile, we have developed this line that combines practicality, taste and health with organic foods of controlled origin, which facilitate the daily life of those looking for a healthier and more lasting lifestyle”, concludes the Roots CEO.

The authorial line has several options of baked goods, jams, cheeses and pre-cut vegetables. According to Tomás Abrahão, all products in the category are made with selected ingredients that are essential for maintaining good health, especially with regard to vitamins and minerals.
