The left-back’s side reached their 22nd domestic milestone after beating CSKA Moscow in the domestic Super Cup

Zenit’s victory in the Russian Super Cup over CSKA Moscow placed the club as the greatest champion with 22 domestic titles captured. Left-back and team captain Douglas Santos was responsible for winning another trophy. After the match, the Paraiba native celebrated the opportunity to carve his name in the history of the club.
– Since I arrived at Zenit, the club’s goal has always been to win. Entering the history of the club is really special. We will continue to work for other titles to come – commented the Brazilian, who achieved his fourth victory in this competition for the club, as well as being a four-time Russian champion and also holding a Russian Cup.
Douglas Santos’s team’s feat in Saturday afternoon’s Russian Super Cup came down to 5-4 penalties after a goalless draw in regular time. The tournament was held in Kazan between Russian Premier League champions Zenit and Russian Cup champions CSKA Moscow. Zenit won their eighth title and became, on their own, the biggest Super Cup champion, above CSKA themselves, who have seven victories.
– This result was very important. It gives you confidence for the start of the Russian Premier League. We know that every year we manage to win, the title is more and more difficult. The level is very high – finished shirt 3.
In the gallery, Zenit have nine titles in the Russian Premier League, four in the Russian Cup, one in the League Cup and eight in the domestic Super Cup. The debut in the Russian Premier League in the 2023/24 season will be next Saturday (22nd), against Nizhny Novgorod away. With 144 games for the club, Douglas Santos is looking to be five times champion of this league.
