With the debut of Oppenheimer getting closer, other curiosities about the film are revealed. After Christopher Nolan, the feature film’s director, revealed that he’s rooting for the production to reach Silicon Valley as an alert, the director appeared in a video revealing the size (literally) of the experience viewers will have by watching it in IMAX cameras .
That said, Nolan took to TikTok to reveal the reel size of the film in the IMAX version which, at three hours long (the largest produced by the director), weighs 272kg with 17.7km in length.
The details of the mega-production were also released by the IMAX profile itself, the Canadian company responsible for creating the format. In the video, one of many posted by the profile, the team shows how “simple” it was to adapt the film (irony).
@imax For Oppenheimer, it has to be perfect. #IMMAX #ChristopherNolan #FilmTok
The sharpness, clarity and depth of the image are unmatched. The main thing for me is shooting a 70mm IMAX film, you’re really letting the screen fade away. You will get a 3D feeling without the glasses. It has a huge screen and fills the peripheral vision of the audience. You are immersing them in the world of the film.

It’s worth noting that this doesn’t mean the person watching Oppenheimer in another format will have a negative experience. The chosen option adapts to the technology available in the cinema, offering quality and, above all, impeccable content.
There are different shapes on the screen, what we call aspect ratios. What you need to plan is how to frame your pictures so they can be performed in different theaters with equal success.
IMAX movies vs. Conventional
But obviously there are differences between the IMAX session and the conventional one, starting with the price. Watching an IMAX session requires a little more investment in the ticket — it can cost up to three times that of a standard ticket — the decision depends on what kind of experience you want to have with the film.
In addition, it has screen sizes, image pixels and sound, much larger in an IMAX version. Another point is the layout of the rooms, which have different geometries, also designed for the viewer’s experience.
