Is the Poco F5 Pro better than the Galaxy S22?

The Poco F5 Pro and Galaxy S22 are basically the same price in Brazil, but are quite different in day-to-day use

OR Little F5 Pro has attracted a lot of attention from users, especially Brazilians, for offering top-of-the-range configurations and below average prices. However, it is better than the Samsung Galaxy S22a premium smartphone from 2022 that also has a very attractive price in Brazil?

I placed the two smartphones side by side for a specs comparison. As I analyzed the two models for Canaltech, the idea is to answer whether the Poco F5 Pro is worth it in Brazil or imported, or the Galaxy S22 is the best purchase option in the country, even if it is already more than a year old .

building and screen

  • Small F5 Pro: 162.8 x 75.4 x 8.6mm, 204g;
  • Galaxy S22: 146 x 70.6 x 7.6mm, 167g.

Although they are flagship phones, the Poco F5 Pro and the Galaxy S22 are very different, reaching different audiences as a result. The device of SAMSUNG it’s much more compact, with a 6.1-inch screen, while the Poco’s is large, with a 6.67-inch display.

The choice between them depends on personal taste. The former has a more delicate footprint, while the latter is more robust. What is worth mentioning, however, is that only the Galaxy S22 has aluminum sides and water and dust resistance (IP68), which could sway those looking for a more premium mobile.

Where Poco’s mobile benefits, however, is on the screen. It has Quad HD resolution, AMOLED, 12-bit color depth, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, 120Hz refresh rate, and 480Hz sampling, which is how fast the display recognizes touch. For those who want a mobile for multimedia content, Poco’s mobile has a wider, more defined, responsive and fluid panel.

Don’t get me wrong: the Galaxy S22’s screen is great, but no better than the F5 Pro’s. If you like small screens, you probably won’t regret using a Samsung device, as it has good definition, vivid colors and a large fluidity.

performance and battery

  • Small F5 Pro: Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, up to 12GB/512GB, 5160mAh;
  • Galaxy S22: Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, up to 8GB/256GB, 3,700mAh.

There’s not much to say about the performance of the two devices, as both are excellent. But, since this is a comparison, the Poco F5 Pro with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is better than the S22 and its Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The most noticeable difference is the above average heating in daily activities, which happens much more often on the S22.

That is, this means that the Chinese device also does better in terms of battery life. This is one of the main problems of the Galaxy S22, which barely withstands a more demanding day of use, while the F5 Pro manages to get through the first day easily.

Samsung’s smartphone, on the other hand, takes advantage of the software experience. The S22’s One UI 5, based on Android 13, is much more stable than MIUI 14, not to mention the broad update support the device will still receive until 2017.

cameras

  • Small F5 Pro: wide by 64 MP f/1.8 + Ultra 8 MP f/2.2 wide angle + 2 MP f/2.4 macro + 16 MP f/2.5 front;
  • Galaxy S22: 50 MPf/1.8 wide angle + 12 MP f/2.2 ultra wide angle + 10 MP f/2.4 telephoto (optical zoom of 3x) + 10 MP f/2.2 front.

While the Poco F5 Pro has its benchmarks for high-end mobiles, it had to make some concessions to lower its final price, and one of them was in the camera. It’s not that it’s bad, but it falls well short of any other model in the same price range.

The Galaxy S line, on the other hand, has always been a benchmark in photographic matters and, just as the S22 Ultra stood out last year, the regular S22 did very well. The level of detail of the main camera is impressive and the post-processing of the images is more professional, without saturating the records too much.

Recordings with the Galaxy S22 are also generally professional, although both record up to 8K with the rear camera. Optical image stabilization, HDR and colors are more beautiful on the Samsung phone.

Price

The Poco F5 Pro isn’t officially sold in Brazil, but you can find it for around R$4,000 at some retailers. It is a price that I consider high, despite its top-of-the-line configurations, and it comes close to models such as Galaxy S23superior in technical data.

However, in the gringa, the smartphone can be found in the R$ 2,500 range, much more interesting. But it is important to remember that purchases outside the country are likely to be subject to taxation, which is 60% of the value of the product, and fines, in case of irregularities in the declaration of value. Also, none of the options have a national guarantee.

The Galaxy S22 is still sold on Samsung’s website at the suggested price of R$ 4,499, however it suffers a drastic reduction when purchased through resellers, which can reach R$ 2,600. And it’s worth mentioning that, unlike its rival, it has a national guarantee.

Poco F5 Pro x Galaxy S22: which one to buy?

Both phones have their pros and cons and I think it’s important to put them on the table with what you prioritize in a device. But first, what needs to be discussed is the cost-effectiveness of both.

Are the advantages of the Poco F5 Pro over the S22, such as the 2K display, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and larger battery, worth the risk of being taxed? And is the Galaxy S22, with its more compact screen, superior cameras, broad support for updates, and nationwide warranty, worth the R$2,600 asking?

If you are looking for a top-of-the-line mobile without spending a lot, the Galaxy S22 is the most interesting option in Brazil right now. While the Poco F5 Pro distinguishes itself in many ways, I don’t think it’s worth risking too much for a relatively small deal.
