With an AlloCiné rating of 1.3/5 based on over 8,000 votes from viewers, we can say that the Catwoman feature film lives up to its reputation as an “untitled turnip” (according to chrischambers86’s review on the site).
But even if the film was beaten on release, its main actress Halle Berry brought three positive things (and a fourth not insignificant)!
Released in 2004, Catwoman was (very) loosely inspired by a DC Comics character dear to the Batman universe who had already appeared as Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Challenge. The film was a huge flop when it was released, but at an awards show in 2018, Halle Berry reflected on the experience:
“Everyone around me was saying, ‘Don’t do it, my daughter, you’ll abandon your career there and you’ll be nobody’. But guess what? I followed my intuition, made this movie called Catwoman. And it screwed up horribly!”
While it was a bummer for most people, it wasn’t for me because I met a lot of interesting people there that I would never have met otherwise, learned two forms of martial arts, and learned what not to do.
In addition, and with some sincerity, the actor specified that the film brought him “The piece of money that changed (his) life”. Sheltered from necessity, the Patience Phillips translator has been involved in a number of charities, particularly in support of research against domestic violence or breast cancer.
What’s more, since Catwoman , Halle Berry continues to direct with Bruised , a portrait of a former MMA champion fighting to regain custody of her son and get her career back on track (available on Netflix). She also twice played mothers searching for their kidnapped children (The Call, Kidnapping).

If, like other stars, Halle Berry is embarrassed by the movie, remember that she had the courage to go ahead and pick up a Razzie Award for Worst Actress for her role as Catwoman. Then he said:
“First of all, I want to thank Warner Brothers for putting me in this awesome movie, it was exactly what my career needed! I was on top and Catwoman just lifted me up. I love it! Sometimes it’s hard to stay up. On top, you’re so much better there.”
