Directed by Hannah Marx (After all, Mark, Mary and some other people) and written by Vera Herbert (It’s us), the film tells the story of Cho’s single father Max and his daughter Wall, played by Mia Isaac, as the pair embark on a road trip from California to New York.
They go to auto lessons for the 20th Anniversary Reunion of Wall and Max College, where he also hopes to be reunited with his mother after she left the family years ago. But there’s another reason the father-son team goes so far: Max is terminally ill and hopes to use their days together on the trip to take time, experience and love with him when Wally leaves. .
This long journey, filled with emotion and humor, will see parents and children come into contact with generations of divisions as they grapple with the expected and unexpected reality of their ongoing relationship.
“As you look back on this journey, I want you to remember that you and I spent time together and didn’t expect your boyfriend to call,” Max said at one point in the film’s trailer.
“I bet you,” Wally tells his father at another point. “I want him all my life.”
