Emelec draws with Sporting Cristal and advances in Sudamericana

This Wednesday (19), Emelec and Sporting Cristal drew 0-0 in the match valid for the second leg of one of the playoffs of the South American. The match took place at George Capwell Stadium in Guayaquil, Ecuador. As in the first leg the Ecuadorians had won 1-0, the classification was with the Electricos where, in the round of 16, they will face Defensa y Justicia.

Due to the minimum advantage guaranteed in the first leg, Emelec played closer and did not give Sporting Cristal much space. On the occasions he has had, the Argentine team has appeared with Sosa. After three minutes, the midfielder went wide. Ten minutes later, Chávez also surrendered, but missed.

The hosts respond with Caicedo, who sends a bomb, but stops in defence. In the 28th minute another chance, this time blocked by the Brazilian defender Ignácio. Only in the 39th minute did the hosts get the big chance in the first half. However, midfielder Carlos Villalba failed late on with his left leg and squandered the opportunity to make his lead before the break even more comfortable.

The second stage is back with everything. Two-handed Emelec had a good chance, but the Brazilian forward Brenner, careful, managed to avert the danger by playing as a defender. In response, Sporting Cristal also had a good chance, this time defended by Ortíz. The Argentines appeared again in the 21st minute where Hohberg looked dangerous, but stopped in defense where Fernando León removed the danger.

At 30, Washington Corozo tried, but sent him out. The number 7 shirt reappeared at 39, but it ended badly and he missed another opportunity to the dismay of manager Tiago Nunes. The attacker reappeared in the sequence in which, in an attempt to finish in the small area, he stopped the Ecuadorian defense, who sent it for a corner.

Despite their persistence, Bombillo withstood the attacks and secured the classification for the next stage of the South American championship.
