Gabriel Jesus and Martinelli score as Arsenal beat MLS stars

In the pre-season in the United States, Arsenal took to the field this Wednesday (19) for another friendly. At Audi Field, in Washington, DC, the Gunners beat the MLS All-Stars, a team made up of Major League Soccer stars, 5-0.

One of the highlights of the England team was the Brazilian Gabriel Jesus. After all, he scored a beautiful goal and created the move that resulted in a penalty for the Londoners.

The MLS All-Stars, who had as many as 28 players at their disposal, played under Bürki; Hollingshead, Glesnes, Zimmerman and Barreal; Martinez, Riqui Puig and Mukhtar; Bouanga, Benteke and Luciano Acosta. Among the reserves, among other things, well-known names, such as the Spanish Carles Gil, former Aston Villa, and Thiago Almada, world champion with Argentina.

The cast was assembled on the basis of a vote involving fans, players and journalists. But Wayne Rooney, coach of the team for the occasion, was also responsible for some choices.

On the other hand, manager Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal played against Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães and Kiwior; Jorginho, Trossard, Vieira; Saka, Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus. Midfielder Declan Rice, recently signed for a record 116.6 million euros (R$629.24 million), started the friendly as an option on the bench.




The game

After just five minutes, Gabriel Jesus scored a great goal after taking advantage of a rebound from entering the box and finishing for a corner. Arsenal were up to 22 after a new advance from Saka, who played for Belgian striker Trossard at the end.

In the final stage, three more goals. Two minutes into the game, the referee awarded a penalty after an MLS All-Stars defender touched the ball inside the box. Jorginho, the penalty shoot-out specialist, didn’t waste anything: 3 – 0.

Arteta opted to field Rice at 19, and the ex-West Ham man made his debut for Arsenal. Gabriel Martinelli, who entered the second stage, and Kai Havertz, who received assistance from former São Paulo Marquinhos, turned victory into a rout.

Arsenal will decide the FA Super Cup on August 6 against Manchester City at Wembley. But before that, he still plays three more games in the pre-season against Manchester United, Barcelona and Monaco, the last one for the Emirates Cup final.
