Although it was generally less appreciated than its two predecessors, Spider-Man 3 established itself as the biggest success of Sam Raimi’s trilogy, grossing $887.4 million worldwide in 2007. Therefore, the director naturally had to return the table to Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst for the fourth episode, in which he planned a super-prequel to John V. Malkovich), Electro and Mysterio (played by his favorite actor Bruce Campbell), while offering him an ally in the form of Felicia ‘Black Cat’ Hardy.
There was even talk of Kraven the Hunter waiting until December 2024 for his big movie debut. Because on January 13, 2010, the ax fell: Sony abandoned the project due to creative differences and replaced it with a reboot that would star Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man with Andrew Garfield to avoid losing the adaptation rights. Even today, some fans are inconsolable, but not all of them have lost hope. And for good reason.
In December 2021, Tobey Maguire returns to his version of Peter Parker in Spider-Man – No Way Home, where Marvel plays the multiverse card so that the hero played by Tom Holland receives help from his predecessors, and he does not close the door to a new solo film. No more so than Sam Raimi, who stepped into the MCU a few months later thanks to Doctor Strange in the Madness multiverse, which he helmed in place of Scott Derrickson.
Three years later, things have not really progressed: Tobey Maguire is not supposed to be in the next two Avengers (Judgment Day and Secret Wars), even if the No Way Home experience proves that you should never say never, and Tom Holland once again dons the Spider-Man suit on the set of A New Day, which is expected to be released in July 2026 worldwide. The status quo then, or almost, and that’s where Mattson Tomlin comes into play.
“It won’t be long to tell, but…”
Co-author of Batman (even if he is not credited in the final version) and its sequel, the latter said. Twitter/XLast July, he wanted to write Spider-Man 4, in which Peter Parker, played by Tobey Maguire, juggled his great power and the responsibilities that come with it, while also being a husband and father. An approach that did not fail to fascinate fans, but for many it was just wishful thinking that would not go any further. to this day
Slow and steady wins the race. There won’t be much to say about it for a long time (if ever!) because it involves a lot of people and politics and things that have nothing to do with me, but I haven’t gotten a “no” yet! https://t.co/hdYju4h0p4

When asked about the status of his idea, Matheson Tomlin said there was little chance it would come to fruition: “slowly but surely”He is responding to an internet user asking if the project is ongoing. “There won’t be much to say about it (if ever!) because it involves a lot of people and politics and things that have nothing to do with me now, but I haven’t given up yet!”
So yes, there is very, very little hope, but it exists until Mattson Tomlin is waived. But there’s no doubt that the current reorganization, as well as Marvel Studios’ post-Secret Wars planning, could work in its favor and give it a good card to play… or even more regret for fans.
