The video shows hit-and-run victims in the United States, not Maduro’s opponents killed in Venezuela

It is not true that video has been recorded in Venezuela showing dead and injured men lying on a sidewalk, as social media posts claim. The disinformation pieces use a recording made in May of this year in Brownsville, USA, after a hit and run that killed eight people and injured ten others. Most of the victims were immigrants.

The disinformation pieces, which were used to accuse Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro of killing opponents, have amassed hundreds of Twitter shares as of this Thursday afternoon (20). The content also circulates on Telegram and WhatsApp, a platform on which it is not possible to estimate the reach (talk to Fatima).

Maduro orders a combat vehicle (war tank) to go over people who ARE AGAINST the regime.

The print of the video showing men lying on the sidewalk is accompanied by the caption:

A video showing victims of being hit by a car was shared on networks as if it were the record of Venezuelans being attacked by tanks at the behest of dictator Nicolás Maduro. The clues present in the images, however, point out that the registration took place in the United States: there is, for example, a poster of campaign of candidate Jesus Rosas for Cameron County, Texas, sheriff for the 2024 election (see below).

OR to the facts noted that the video shows the victims of a case that occurred in Brownsville, a Texas city located on the border with Mexico, in May of this year. On that occasion, one SUV driver he disrespected a red light and ran over a group of mostly Venezuelan immigrants at a bus stop before attempting to flee the scene. eight people died and ten were wounded.

Subsequent tests showed that the driver, named George Alvarez, he was under the influence of drugs. He claims to have lost control of the vehicle, but the carabinieri do not rule out that the the crime was intentional.
