Isaac Souza goes to the World Cup final and secures a place at the Paris Olympics: ‘Inexplicable happiness’

Brazil gained another representative at the Olympic Games in Paris. In the early hours of this Friday (21st), Isaac Souza secured a ranking for the diving final at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, and, at the same time, a trip to France next year.

The athlete from Rio placed 11th on the 10m platform after the six mandatory jumps and scored a total of 418.95 points.

– I can not explain the size of my happiness. I will go to another Olympics to represent my country and this is inexplicable. I knew that the dispute in Japan would be very difficult, with athletes of the highest level, but I have always believed in it and worked hard to live this moment. I am very happy – said Isaac.

Now, Isaac remains focused on the decision, scheduled for Saturday morning, starting at 6:30 (Brasilia time)

– I managed to qualify for the final and the Olympic vacancy in the last jump, but my work here is not done yet. The final will be very difficult, but I will give my best – concludes Isaac.

Born in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Isaac Souza was born in the Mangueira favela. As soon as he was five years old, the boy started taking capoeira lessons, thanks to his flexibility and agility. Two years later, his mother, Elizelba, enrolled him in an artistic gymnastics competition at the UERJ (State University of Rio de Janeiro). In the test, Isaac excelled and passed. But, some time later, the highlight was so great that the athlete was invited by Flamengo.

Immediately after leaving the sport, motivated by a friend, he convinced his parents to participate in a test at the Julio Delamare Water Park, in the Maracanã complex, to practice diving. In 2018, at the age of 19, Isaac won the Brazil Olympic Award as the sport’s best athlete in the 2017 season.

It should be noted that the athlete is a bronze medalist at the Lima-2019 Pan American Games and a semifinalist at the World Championships of the same year.
