After several weeks on the air, M6 brings you the final episode of season 20 of NCIS: Special Investigations this Saturday, July 22. In this final chapter, the special agents must apprehend a Russian oligarch and former KGB agent named Kostya Valkov, who is planning a large-scale attack on American soil.
For this, Nick is taken to prison, where Yuri, Valkov’s son, is imprisoned, and Evelyn Shaw, who rubbed Yuri’s shoulders, is integrated into the witness protection program. Thanks to Nick and Dr. Mallard, NCIS discovers that Kostya is targeting the power grid and wants to cause a total blackout…
Season 21 has already been ordered
Last February, American channel CBS announced that NCIS had been renewed for a 21st season, due to air next year. Despite the departure of Mark Harmon, who bowed out in season 19, the detective series continues to be a strong network brand and remains one of the network’s most-watched dramas.
This long-awaited renewal makes NCIS the third longest-running American prime-time drama series, behind SVU (which was renewed for a twenty-fifth season) and NYPD (which received 23 seasons).
These new episodes, of course, should bring back Gary Cole (Desperate Housewives), who plays ex-FBI agent Alden Parker, who has been put in charge of the team in Gibbs’ absence. Sean Murray (McGee), Katrina Lowe (Jessica Knight), Dionna Reasonover (Cassie), and Wilmer Valderrama (Nicolas Torres) are also slated to appear in this 21st season.
A new spin-off is in the works
Since its launch in September 2003, NCIS: Special Investigations has been the subject of three spin-offs: NCIS Los Angeles (which ended its run this year after 14 seasons), NCIS New Orleans (cancelled after season 7), and NCIS Hawaii (which will also return to the air next year for one season).
Faced with the success of the franchise, Paramount decided to release a new iteration, this time set in Australia. Helmed by Shane Brennan, creator and showrunner of NCIS: Los Angeles, the first international spin-off titled NCIS: Sydney will follow a team of Australian Federal Police who must join forces with American NCIS agents.
Currently shooting, this franchise newcomer is played by Olivia Swann (Legends of Tomorrow) and Todd Lassance (The Vampire Diaries). NCIS: Sydney will be available exclusively in Australia on the Paramount+ platform and Network 10. At the moment, there is no information about its international distribution.
Catch the final episode of NCIS this Saturday 22nd July from 9.10pm on M6
