How to use iPhone standby mode


iPhone StandBy mode works like a mini display and displays information like the time, calendar, or photos from your phone’s library; check how to use it

Also called Standby mode, iPhone StandBy mode is a feature that intelligently displays information in landscape mode while the device is charging. It contains features like watch faces, library photos, and calendar view.



How to use iPhone standby mode

Standby mode is available in iPhone models updated from iOS 17. To activate it, do this:

  1. Connect the phone to the charger with the screen locked;
  2. Place it on a flat surface, horizontally.

After performing these steps, a welcome splash screen appears on the screen. After that, the default StandBy mode display starts with the classic analog clock and calendar display.

To customize this view, you can swipe up on the clock or calendar face and check options like:

  • Time;
  • Calendar events;
  • sticky notes;
  • Stock exchange data;
  • More watch face options.

Standby mode has more display options, such as images from the Photos app library and watch faces that fill the entire screen. To switch between them, swipe left or right.

Also, the feature supports the live activity, Siri assistance, incoming calls and view notifications. In low light conditions, the night mode is activated, which displays reddish colors.

How to customize Standby mode

If you want more customization options for the Standby mode screen, do the following:

  1. In StandBy mode, press one of the display screens: default, photo or clock;
  2. Unlock iPhone;
  3. Tap the “+” button located at the top of the screen;
  4. Explore widget options and photo albums;
  5. Choose an option and complete the activity.

Now, if you want to disable Standby mode or change your Night Mode and Notifications settings, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app;
  2. Tap “Standby”;
  3. Make settings for the desired options.
