A 13-year-old girl kidnapped in San Antonio, Texas has been found thanks to a distress call written on a piece of paper.
the hijacker, Steven Robert Sablan, 61, stopped his car in Long Beach, California, to take clothes to a laundromat. While the man was in the shop, the girl stayed in the car and she wrote, in red letters, the phrase “Help me” – in Portuguese, “Help me”.
A person who saw the note called the police. When the police arrived, they saw Sablan standing next to the car and the girl was saying in a low voice “help”.
During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered a handgun and a pair of handcuffs. Police determined that the victim was the missing girl from San Antonio.
The kidnapper is now liable for kidnapping and transportation of a minor with the intention of engaging in criminal sexual activity. The trial is scheduled for July 31 in the United States District Court in downtown Los Angeles.
If convicted of these charges, Sablan faces the maximum penalty: life in federal prison.
