Santos drew 2-2 with Botafogo this Sunday, for the 16th round of the Brazilian championship. Peixe opened up a lead in Vila Belmiro with two goals from Marcos Leonardo, but conceded an equalizer in the closing minutes of the match.
With the tie, Santos was in 14th place in the Brasileirão, with 17 points earned. Botafogo, on the other hand, remains comfortably at the top of the tournament, with 40 players.
Now Santos is back on the field for the Brazilian against Fluminense, next Saturday, away from home. Botafogo take on Coritiba at the Estádio Nilton Santos on Sunday.
The game
The first half was balanced, with few scoring chances. While Botafogo tried to control possession, Santos finished off by betting on long balls. Turra deploys Peixe in a 4-3-3 formation, with Lucas Lima open on the right.
In a more truncated game than the player, Santos was more efficient. In the 23rd minute, Jean Lucas received freely on the left and sent Marcos Leonardo deep. The number 9 dribbled past defender Adryelson and beat goalkeeper Lucas Perri, putting the hosts ahead
Botafogo ramped up the pressure in the opening minutes of the finals. Top scorer Tiquinho Soares headed dangerously after Victor Sá’s cross. The full-back had a big break shortly afterwards after receiving a pass from Marlon Freitas to stop João Paulo.
Santos had bad news 15′ into the second half. Goalkeeper João Palo felt uncomfortable in the flank area and had to leave the pitch, crying as Vladimir entered.
Botafogo continued with ball possession, but without the same strength as they had at the start of the finals. Santos took the opportunity to extend the lead in the 36th minute, following a steal from Lucas Lima and an assist from Marcos Leonardo only to complete the goal.
Soon after, however, Botafogo discounted. Victor Sá made a good move down the left side and served Janderson, who just adjusted for Tiquinho Soares to put Glorioso into play.
In the 42nd minute Botafogo equalised. Left-back Marçal took a corner kick to Adryelson’s head, who left everything the same and put the final numbers in the clash at Vila Belmiro.
