“It’s impossible”: One Piece version Netflix, fans are divided by the appearance of the characters of the series

True, the plot of One Piece depicts the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat crew: Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Sanji (for the characters present at the beginning of the series). But One Piece is also – and above all – a world populated by a large number of secondary characters and antagonists that we discover as the story progresses.

While the first teaser released during Tudum gave us a first look at the characters of the program, the new trailer for the Netflix series, adapted from the manga by Eiichiro Oda, allows us to know what some of the main characters of the intrigue will be like, such as Shanks the redhead, the pirate king Gol d. Roger or even Fishman.

The redhead shivered

We know this: The manga’s author has been heavily involved in this live-action adaptation of his work, to the point of asking Netflix to return episodes in order to live up to the expectations of fans of the world’s best-selling comic book.

The appearance of the characters was also the subject of significant work, although details were changed to accommodate the need: thus, Luffy’s sandals were replaced with closed shoes to facilitate the shooting of action scenes.

Arlong

While the appearance of the Straw Hat crew members was generally well-received by fans, it’s worth noting that the designs of the series’ more secondary characters drew a more mixed reaction. This is especially true of Arlong, who appears less imposing in the more “realistic” version than in the manga version.

Dracul Mihawk

Fans of the original work have nonetheless defended the Netflix series adaptation, going so far as to admit that despite being altered, the characters’ appearances do not betray the spirit of One Piece. On the contrary!

The first season of the live-action One Piece series is available exclusively on Netflix starting August 31.
