True, the plot of One Piece depicts the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat crew: Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Sanji (for the characters present at the beginning of the series). But One Piece is also – and above all – a world populated by a large number of secondary characters and antagonists that we discover as the story progresses.
While the first teaser released during Tudum gave us a first look at the characters of the program, the new trailer for the Netflix series, adapted from the manga by Eiichiro Oda, allows us to know what some of the main characters of the intrigue will be like, such as Shanks the redhead, the pirate king Gol d. Roger or even Fishman.
The redhead shivered
We know this: The manga’s author has been heavily involved in this live-action adaptation of his work, to the point of asking Netflix to return episodes in order to live up to the expectations of fans of the world’s best-selling comic book.
The appearance of the characters was also the subject of significant work, although details were changed to accommodate the need: thus, Luffy’s sandals were replaced with closed shoes to facilitate the shooting of action scenes.

Arlong
While the appearance of the Straw Hat crew members was generally well-received by fans, it’s worth noting that the designs of the series’ more secondary characters drew a more mixed reaction. This is especially true of Arlong, who appears less imposing in the more “realistic” version than in the manga version.
It’s a shame when Arlong proved to be this tall
It should be strong, it has done taxation, it is the opposite😭#OnePieceNetflix pic.twitter.com/bkY3Iipeiq— blue | Audrey (@BlueDust89) July 22, 2023
In real life in the new trailer ## on #NetflixThere are things that go through, there are passages that look cool.
And others that are catastrophic, I’m sorry. THEME COMING SOON! pic.twitter.com/3YSrnqONYo

I’ve been following One Piece since I was a kid, I was very skeptical when I heard about the live action and this trailer just confirmed what I was afraid of. Sanji’s fights have a weird dynamic and Arlong/Shanks doesn’t give anything at all… #OnePieceNetflix

I’m honestly going to watch it live, very cool and well done for the most part
And I love Beg, I think she’s greatBut Arlong… I’m struggling… I feel like he’s not tall and wide/muscular enough https://t.co/VvsMnhchwu

Dracul Mihawk
Fans of the original work have nonetheless defended the Netflix series adaptation, going so far as to admit that despite being altered, the characters’ appearances do not betray the spirit of One Piece. On the contrary!
A lot of people are criticizing Arlong on Netflix’s One Piece series personally, I think he’s doing well 😌😌 pic.twitter.com/fI7dutFdp7

New trailer for Netflix’s One Piece series.
We see the execution of Roger, Garp, Arlong, Mihawk… and I’ll say it holds up.
On the other hand, the fight is a bit terrible, it looks soft and very / very wired.pic.twitter.com/ZDFY0O2Srx— ⛩ Rio Saeba | Japan XYZ ⛩ (@Ryo_Saeba_3) July 22, 2023
So what are your thoughts on Big Boss?
(I personally find the Luffy a bit too big and the shanks a bit small, but that’s a detail) pic.twitter.com/sGRuDqRU5w

Comparing Arlong to Davy Jones is silly to me because a lot of fans forget that we are bringing to life ONE PIECE, a manga cartoon character.
And that the Pirates of the Caribbean license had no restrictions on its design unlike Netflix’s… pic.twitter.com/szODfKSGUt— Valley of God | One Piece (@GodValley20) July 22, 2023
