Advertising on Netflix and Disney +? French subscribers are against this. And you?

Netflix has already tested it in 2018 – and angered some of the test panel subscribers with “trailers” – and yet the “advertising” option among its offers is still being considered by the streaming giant, which is experiencing a significant loss of subscribers.

Especially since Disney +, one of the main competitors of the platform, is already planning to launch this offer by the end of 2022 in the United States and by 2023 in the rest of the world. This option, called AVoD (Video Demand Sponsored by Advertising, Editor’s Note), is a subscription offer at a discounted price, provided the ad tabs are displayed on the interface.

This option is popular in the Atlantic Ocean as HBO Max, Peacock, Hulu or even Paramount + already offer this offer. But in France, this option stretches the teeth if we believe the OTT NPA Conseil – Harris Interactive study, presented French film.

It seems that the AVoD offer will not be liked by the French Disney + subscribers, of whom 61.4% prefer to keep the current subscription without changing the price. The same is true for Netflix subscribers, who want 64.3% to keep their subscriptions without ads.

While the vast majority oppose the AVoD offer, the door is open to 38.6% of Disney + and the remaining 35.5% of Netflix subscribers who can opt for the AVoD offer with promotional inserts and discounted prices.

What about new subscribers?

If we look at the case of people who do not yet have a signature, there will be some interest among the study participants. They can potentially opt for 14.4% AVoD offer for Disney + and 17.1% for Netflix.

Even if the advertising option is not liked by current subscribers, it can interest potential subscribers and offer exciting prospects to streaming platforms that are trying to gain more subscribers. The study also found that by integrating these potential stakeholders into their offerings, Disney + could reach 8.4 million French households and Netflix 14.5 million.
