was baptized Mortal Kombat 1The new installment in the saga of the indestructible Mortal Kombat video game is technically the 12th installment in the franchise, even if the reboot is hidden under that title.
Still being developed by NetherRealm Studios under the direction of the saga’s indestructible progenitor, Ed Boone, the upcoming game introduces a new Mortal Kombat universe created by the fire god Liu Kang, in which fans will find reimagined versions of iconic characters.
Since formalizing the title in May of last year, the studio has been regularly releasing new images of this indestructible franchise born 31 years ago. In favor of this weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con, a roundtable was organized around Ed Boone, accompanied in particular by actress Kelly Hu (X-Men 2, Arrow, BMF …), who attended a performance session filmed for the character of Lee May. And Yuri Lowenthal, who plays Ninja Smoke in the MK game.
The next playable characters to join the game’s main roster are Lee Mei, Tanya, and Baraka. These three fighters are featured in the new trailer, which highlights the Umgad, a battalion of warrior priests dedicated entirely to protecting the royal family of the Underworld. The video also reveals new gameplay insights as well as story elements.
No Mortal Kombat deserves the name without inviting its traditional guests to the arena. In the past we’ve had Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Alien, Predator, Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw…

Mortal Kombat 1 Expected on September 19, 2023. With Mortal Kombat 2 still a long way from its theatrical release, which began filming in June, has been put on hold due to the ongoing Hollywood strike, you’ll have plenty of time to run the game as an appetizer.
