The Nasdaq tech index rose to lead gains on Wall Street amid investor excitement ahead of earnings reports from mega-cap tech companies Alphabet and Microsoft coming in after the close.
Both Microsoft and Alphabet have launched a number of AI-related products since Microsoft-backed OpenAI launched ChatGPT in 2022. Investors are hoping the new products help the tech giants offset a slowdown in the cloud business.
According to preliminary data, the S&P 500 gained 0.29% to 4,568.32 points. The Nasdaq advanced 0.63% to 14,146.82 points. The Dow Jones rose 0.09% to 35,442.25 points.
