Born in Paris to Algerian parents, Zahia Ziouane grew up in Pantin, Seine-Saint-Denis. From an early age, he discovered his passion for music through his school choir and guitar lessons. Dreaming of becoming a professional conductor, the young woman received diplomas from several universities and conservatories.

In 1998, then aged 17, Zahia Ziuan founded the Orchester Symphonique Divertimento. Based in Saint-Saint-Denis, it brings together 70 musicians and teachers from the Île-de-France and offers, alongside concerts, activities to raise awareness of symphonic music.

Almost twenty-five years later, her incredible journey will be brought to the screen by Marie-Castille Menton-Char, herself a lover of symphonic music.

To embody this hopeful story, the director enlists Oulaya Amamra – Cesar for Best Female Hope 2017 for Divines. The actress, who had no musical training, was personally accompanied by Zahia Ziuan, surrounded by real musicians on the screen.

With an average audience rating of 4/5 on AlloCiné, Divertimento is one of the dumps of 2022. Marie-Castile Mention-Schaar manages to present a fascinating film without Manichaeism and caricatures that supports social diversity in a cultural setting. A must see.
