Wesley Carvalho spoke at the press conference after his elimination in the Libertadores. He commented on the future within Athletico and the choices of the penalty takers
Atletico coach Wesley Carvalho spoke at the press conference following their elimination in the Copa Libertadores. On Tuesday night (8), the Hurricane won 2-0, but were eliminated on penalties. The coach spoke about his future at the club, whether he will remain in charge of the team and also about the choice of penalty takers, including the absence of Vitor Roque.
This was the coach’s 13th match in charge of Atletico Madrid. In all, Wesley Carvalho has six wins, five losses and three draws. He stressed that he had not spoken to the board about his future and that he is an Atletico employee, that he only thinks about everyday life.
– I’m an Athletico employee. So I am the coach of the club and I will always be available. There was no decisive conversation about whether or not to continue. If I go back to full time assistant, there won’t be another coach. The management didn’t approve any of this, they didn’t even say I will be hired. I live for the day, I will continue to work as long as the club wants.

After more than five years, Atletico lost on penalties. Wesley Carvalho explained the choice of scouts and the absence of Vitor Roque, both in this dispute and in other matches.
– About Vitor, he would be one of the next, the sixth or seventh. I don’t like the word hierarchy, but I’ve mentioned it before, it’s about taking advantage of penalty shoot-out training. Vitor is young, he will understand that when he starts to have more confidence, better results, he will be an option for free kicks.
After this elimination, Athletico returns to the field next Tuesday (15th), against Cuiabá, for the 19th day of the Brazilian championship. In domestic competition, Hurricane has 28 points in 18 games.
