The mini-series Wildflowers boasts a cast of big names hailing from Hollywood, other parts of the world, as well as a great Australian Aboriginal cast. This drama tells the story of Alice Hart (Alila Brown), a 9-year-old girl who grew up in a home with an abusive father. Until a fire kills him and his mother.
Alice then moves in with her grandmother June Hart (Sigourney Weaver) – whom she never knew – and her partner Twig (Lea Purcell) on their magnificent flower farm. The couple runs it by employing only women, all victims of domestic violence. However, June is hiding many dark secrets about her family’s past, and this threatens her relationship with Alice.
Wildflowers is a pure drama adapted from Australian author Holly Ringland’s novel of the same name, with Sarah Lambert as creator and showrunner. Sigourney Weaver was the first big name announced by the production. The Avatar star has signed on to play June Hart, a mysterious woman full of contradictions, and will also executive produce the series.
- The nugget series with Sigourney Weaver that no one is talking about? Our review of Wildflowers on Prime Video
The story tells about Alice Hart, a 9-year-old girl whose parents die in a mysterious fire. He is then raised by his grandmother June Hart (Sigourney Weaver) – whom he never knew – on her magnificent flower farm. But over time, Alice learns some terrible truths about her family.
A true talent for playing bad boys
In the role of Clim, Alice’s abusive father, we meet actor Charlie Wicker. His repeated abuse, both physical and psychological, led the little girl to dream of her father’s death in a fire. which eventually happened. But she’s not the only one to die in the fire, June’s mother Agnes (Tilda Cobham-Hervey) also loses her life in the drama. June thus finds herself an orphan.
Charlie Vickers is an Australian actor who made his acting debut in 2018 in the European co-production Medici: Masters of Florence. However, he is now known for another much bigger role in another Prime Video series that will likely set his career on fire.
You are Charlie Vickers in a mask!
Indeed, Charlie Vickers seems to have a special knack for playing villainous characters as he plays Lord Halbrand aka Sauron in The Rings: The Rings of Power. The character’s true villainous identity is not revealed until the end of Season 1 and serves as a teaser for Season 2 where he will be the revealed antagonist.
If you already saw all the ambiguity of the character in the first season of the world’s most expensive series, Charlie Vickers takes it one step further in Wild Flowers. The series, directed from start to finish by Glendyn Ivin, never shows the violence inflicted on little Alice. But it relies on Vickers’ acting, which can tell us at a glance that he’s about to break loose. A real acting performance, risky and daring.
The fourth episode of Wildflowers will be available starting August 11 on Prime Video.
